hi,
after I couldn't find anything on google about this I'm trying my luck here in order to find an answer. I'm from Austria and the Evil Dead was banned in Germany until last month or so. The unban was celebrated with different blu ray releases (even a bust-edition) and a limited cinema-release. Of course, living in the neighbor-state, I had to buy some blu rays and go to the cinema now (unforgettable experience!). But there is one thing I noticed that kinda buged me. In the scene when evil Scott suddenly sits up while Ash is standing in front of the main entrance and trying to keep Cherly out, there is a rough cut on Ashs positioning, at least on my old dvd there is. In the cinema and on the new bluray, I noticed this rough cut was kinda smoothed out. Did they seriously try to fix that goof? I loved it the way it was. Can someone please explain to me what happened here?

I honestly don't know, but there's some weird stuff like that in some of the releases. Like in that scene where Cheryl is calling out the cards the other girls are drawing before getting possessed for the first time. In some releases there is a fast zoom on her face when she turns towards the camera, while in other releases there is no zoom at all. I don't know what that's all about and which version is the originally intended one.

I'm pretty sure all of this can be chalked up to variations in international edits; sometimes a second or a minute or two will be chopped out of a cut, and a different pan or zoom will be used to cover it up, to meet the standards of various international laws. I think it depends on which version of the movie they had in their grips at the time.

If I remember right, Sam recut the movie for its blu-ray release as well.

Book of the Dead has a nice guide that covers all of the differences between the various known versions, if you want even more info.

Thanks alot! I've found my answer there! :D The bluray has at least 20 tweaks to correct little errors. I found 1/20 haha
