Hi all,

Just a quick heads up, from now on a monthly competition will be running on BookOfTheDead.ws. The theme will change each month, with some upcoming competitions involving 'the best fanmade replica Evil Dead trilogy related prop', 'the most obscure/best/rarest item in your Evil Dead collection', and 'the best Evil Dead trilogy related short film made by a fan or collection of fans'. Each month's prize will be something on the rarer and interesting side, not something you can easily pick up on Amazon for peanuts, and the prize will reflect the difficulty of the competition. The harder the competition, the better the prize.

To begin something simple while word gets around, the first competition is the 'Best Evil Dead trilogy related fanmade costume'. It can be anything from an Ash Halloween costume you made years ago to some sort of deadite makeup created for a fan film, or even something created specifically for this competition. The closing date is Monday, June 30 2014. The winner will be announced shortly after that, along with the next competition, both of which will be posted on this page. Check out the Competition page for more information and how to enter.

Hopefully doing this should increase fan participation and encourage people to get chatting on the forums and get creative, as the fan scene has been fairly quiet of late.

Sweet and good luck sir!  :cool ..... I would blow the dust off my Return to the Woods stuff (again) for this round but we all want someone who hasn't got a Palace original to win .. increase the fandom all around! .. nice one Rob ..

Yes, you're more than welcome to dust off Return to the Woods stuff, I'm hoping some of the fan films made in the past will be entered when I get to 'the best Evil Dead trilogy related short film made by a fan or collection of fans' competition, Return to the Woods itself is a great example of a fanmade film so hopefully that will be put up, all these competitions might bring some old fans back into the scene?

I have some rare prizes coming up, including some select special Japanese items which I've got duplicates of (or am currently having sent over), and maybe I'll even part with a few little ED1/ED2 location pieces for the big competitions, and best of all, it's free to the winner!

left wondering though, does my 'inspired by Evil Dead and the rest of the genre' piece count as a fan made prop for the purpose of that competition? and gotta be careful if i win anything....sullivan will be pissed! ;-)

You're more than welcome to enter whatever you want when we get to that competition, inspired by or a replica, either way is fine.

I shall vote for thee Jake if that's an option  :bigsmile
(one vote from me for Jake please Rob)

Hey Rob, sounds like a cool idea.... :thumbup  also i hated to hear the ED2 cabin ext collapsed :sad....but then again it lasted alot longer than anyone thought it would.

Maybe i can round up something to  enter i the competition with, I'll be intouch.

DB.

I didn't know the ED2 cabin ext had finally collapsed  :sad ... what more do you know about this Hellbilly1965? ...

Hey there swofty..........This past winter NC had a pretty bad snow/ice storm and im certain thats what done the cabin in. Its really sad if your a diehard...however the toolshed is built like a brick shithouse, and im sure it will be there for many more years to come. The few people that did make it to the cabin location...I guess we can consider ourselves lucky.

If Rob is willing to let go of some of his "goodies" from there, it may be the ONLY oportunity one may have to obtain something from that location.... nothing stays the same!

Hey Hellbilly1965 ... thanks for the update sir .. that's sad but I understand that Rob is one of the 'protectors' of the location of the now ruined cabin location. Maybe he or you can contact the privacy concerned family and secure more parts of the cabin before they're burned or destroyed. There was a ton of wood in the most recent pics and the family could turn that into cash instead with the correct management approach.

I know for a fact that theres aleast one ( the last one intact) of the giant 6ft windows in the cabin...i think it was left in the front main room? I had removed three of them from the window frames...and was only able to take two of them with me on my last trip out there. these windows are HUGE!..the two i have are being displayed at my place for now. I wanted to return for the third one at some point, just havent.

Ive decided to share all this "stuff" that ive gatherd through the years...and i kinda hope that Rob will be willing to help... I feel there is still room four a deluxe "Evil Heads" disk for collectors Fact is theres alot of cool items out there, it would be great to see it all on one disk...

cant wait to see what Rob's competition brings out. :cool

DB.

"Evil Heads" .... I love that :cool

Rob and HB65, I'm going to stalk both of you until you work together in this preservation project ...... because you're the only two left who can now .. So get on with it!  :bigsmile :wink (seriously though .. do). If you need a hand in any small way, Rob's got my number .. as you were etc etc  :thumbup

"was that legal"?  well the owner told me could have anything i wanted from the place, and allowed me three trips.... so....yea i guess it was. :cool

The family don't want people to trespass, that's why they've kept the location quiet. They've trusted two fans to keep the info off the internet. I'm not one of them sadly but I do respect their reasons.

The main reason they dont want people just showing up is because this is a large piece of land thats used for cattle/beef. Three movies have been filmed there and at one time people would just come right up the private drive (no gate at that time) and make themselves at home. The owners are VERY friendly to say the least...but they dont want to get sued because someone got snake bit. They have a TERRIBLE rattler problem, the snakes have even attacked a full grown bull before. so its not safe to wonder around the place, I had a shot gun with me on my first visit as it was during the summer. if all works out, there will be a disk in the near future documenting that place and more. me personaly, i think its time something like this happens...a few have tried, none have really came to light. we'll see.

Oh my god I hate rattle snakes! Ugh. Didn't know the property had that problem. Almost stepped on one when I was in Texas.

@ Hellbilly1965  re. A few have tried, none have really come to light ?.... Ok, I'm going to take the bait if Rob isn't  :laughing  http://www.bookofthedead.ws/website/features_evil_dead_fan_trip_of_a_lifetime.html

and: http://www.bookofthedead.ws/website/evil_dead_2_locations.html

@ Elise41 re. rattlers .... I ate some rattler in a specialist restaurant in Arizona. It's chewy. I'm surprised that the film production companys didn't report any problems or anecdotes unless this is a more recent problem?

You know, I just remembered the story that Greg told when he directed Bruce to take a piss somewhere and he did it on a rattlesnake nest. Ha, now it makes sense.

Cor .. that would have stung  :um

.. and no offense intended HB65, looking forward to whatever you can do sir  :) ... I think you're our only 'man on the ground' at the moment ..
