RE: Evil Dead Television Series

Maybe Ash will get to the toilet and while waiting, some girl finds the Necronomicon laying around and starts reading from it. I think that wouldn't be that bad, but at the same time it wouldn't actually be Ashe's fault, so this theory is probably a dead end.

MaidOfKandar: I'm not justifying the drunk reading in order to get some, but I'm not sure we can say with clear concious that it is out of Ash's character. First of all, his character was differend in each of the three movies. Second of all, we didn't see this character for thirty years (of story time). His life was ruined by the Book. He most probably hates it more than anything in the World, but he still keeps it, so it wouldn't do any harm. If the Necronomicon will be just a funny prop for Ash in his trailer, well that's just bad screenwriting. But if he tries to laugh at the Book in order to eas the pain, if he wants to purposely dishonor it in some way, well, that would be different.

It's like I said. I just need to wait for the actual episode to see how they're gonna approach this.

BTW: The YouTube and the Eonline footage is the same.

And one last thing. I don't know if anyone agrees with me, but the Necronomicon pages seen in the video don't look Evil Dead enough for me. The content is fine, I also liked the design released by EW a few months back, but the pages look almost new. It just doesn't give me the feeling of a thousands of years old book from Hell bound in human flesh and written by human blood. :(

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

They have said they are not mentioning Army of darkness.
But ash has memories of it.

Anyone can think whatever they want, I am
going to take it as Army of darkness happen.

as for ash puting the moves on kelly its whatever
I don't really care.

I do take issue with the pot smoking though.

im very anti drug but I do support medical marijuana
it bothers me that one of my childhood heroes lights up a jay.

i agree ash was never that dumb.

if this is just a small sample of
what the show is, then I'm disappointed already.

I think the whole thing is in real bad taste.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

man, all the negativity...
I think it really looks good and I'm beyond excited it's finally happening. We get the return of Bruce Campbell as Ash!
I kinda hate it some people saying it doesn't look or feels like the original movies anymore. It's 2015.... ofcourse it doesn't!
Will it be better than the movies, probably not but I'm sure it will be a wild ride anyway and beyond fun.
All the people who are already hating the series even before they saw it, please, if you don't like it watch the original trilogy again or at least be happy with what Raimi and co are giving us which, again, looks really nice.
Evil Dead fans can be such negative people who are really, really hard to please.

I know it may not seem like it, but I really don't hate the show. I'm still exited about it, more and more as the time goes by. But the more I'm looking forward to it, the more I'm worried that it will turn out bad. That's all.

If it turns out OK, I'll be the happiest guy ever. :)

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

I don't like to dwell in the land of negativity, and think people would find it a lot more enjoyable if they just let things play out instead of going off of conjecture and hearsay on the internet(s). As a fan of all things Evil Dead for so long, and a member of Deadites since 2003 there was a time I never thought we would actually see another Evil Dead related project no matter what rumor(s) were flying around... and then the remake happened and was met with a resounding, meh. Now we are getting a spiffy new tv show on Starz with no one hanging around to say "You can't do that" with the exception of Universal Pictures presumably when it comes to AoD. Plus Bruce Campbell is not just involved, but he will actually be playing Ash again for fuck's sake. So I'm going to enjoy the hell out of this show, and not let anything stand in the way. I'm mean if there is anything bad I won't pretend otherwise, hehe. Times have changed, and we have come a long way since 1979 when this whole adventure started. I for one welcome that change, and look forward to all the new stuff that will be coming out over the next few weeks, months, and years. Needless to say, if everything was always the same in life would be pretty damn boring my friends.

/I also can't help, but wonder is Starz doing a marathon with the original trilogy will help soften their stance on letting the gang use more AoD related stuff on AvED in the future.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

I'm not being negative I'm looking forward to the show.
I just think that was a bad idea.

Im always the guy on here asking people
to look at the bright side.

yes it's 2015 but I live in the 80s.

Breakdown

*Alright lets kick it off with the main topic of debate, why did ash read from the book just to get some. Now there isnt alot to go off of but the scene that caught my eye was him flipping through the book, now my prediction based on that one shot is he takes the book into the bathroom with him to read while his drunk lady friend is waiting on him, he casually starts looking through it, in his drunken/high state accidentally mumbles the summoning passage and then passes out in the bathroom moments later. (grasping at straws i know but it's the best i got for that topic)

*Now @ 0:39 seconds a news reporter is apparently reporting a blackhole appearing somewhere, could this be where the demons come from when ash accidentally awakens them again ?

*Now @ 0:51 (quick sidenote of pablo going in for a fist bump and ash holding up his hand with a wtf look and they elbow bump instead haha priceless :D ) it looks like they are summoning some kind of demon in the books from beyond store and it seems to me kelly is going to be the smart one of the group due to the fact of her saving them both from it.

*Now this frame has got me excited @ 1:08 kelly is holding a gun up to someone, if you look closely at the surrounding's it appears they are at a cabin  ;)

*@1:13, it appears they are at the camp the one descrption was talking about, note the skull with horns to the right

*Now lets talk about amanda, i have a feeling she's gonna play a bigger role then i thought, the reason im starting to suspect that is because of what the deadite says to her @ 1:30 "WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE !" is she related to something the deadites are looking for or another chosen one?

*@ 2:12 i think the deadite throwing the table at ash is kellys mom, it looks like her from the body shape

If he's taking the book in as reading material then it's even worse than him reading the passages while high.  It means he's actually, deliberately taking a book that he was once demonstrably in fear of - a book that basically destroyed his life - and is using it as fodder.  It makes no sense.

I'm wondering if they know Amanda and Ash are destined to know each other, or be romantically connected.  Would be interesting if she has second site and can tell the difference between disguised demons and humans (and if it's not pure Deadite-based paranoia at work).

Cabin shot of Kelly:

I picked up this in Michael Shipley's picture spam:

The skinned Deadite definitely shows up in the Books from Beyond episode.  Looks like Ash and Pablo are stuck in the pentagram it's placed on the floor (and it kind of looks like Pablo's had his scalp trimmed back?  could be the lighting)

@SutterCane: Well, they have to confirm that AOD didn't happen in a way, because RightsIssues.

Ivan talked about that idea during the press conference.  They rejected it because they can't use the idea because of the rights issues inherent.

I'm aware of the rights issues and they will ignore AoD to be legit.  But never say never. ;) I'm sure this "issue" could be settle according to the $ucce$$ of the $erie.

What I mean is the idea Ivan talked about, they could reuse it at the beginning of season 2.  If Ash battle his greatest nemesis (which could be himself) and split in two at the end of season 1.  If one is send in another dimension, we could get a split storyline with 2 Ash without any rights issues. ;)

That'd be a nice idea, but I don't think it'll ever happen.  Universal is making plenty of $$$s just licensing AOD out and making shirts and whatever they can; they're far less concerned with what they can make off of a property like AvED where they have no controlling rights.

It's arguable that Ash's character is different in all three movies - but it's also arguable that it makes sense for the Ash we first see in TED to end up the person he is in AOD.  Now, do I think the Ash we left at the end of AOD would turn into the kind of guy who strokes a strange girl with his wooden hand, is casually racist and uses the Necronomicon for casual reading reasons?  No, I don't, and yes, I think this is an example of Sam trying to push the notion of Ash being The Most Terrible Person Ever because he finds it funny to regress his character.

Also apparently his life hasn't been 'ruined'; he's supposed to happily be at his job, picking up women, when he messes up and this happens again.

RE the book's artwork: did they manage to get any rights from Tom Sullivan this time out?  I see some intact drawings but yeah, they cheaped out on the weathering a bit.

And once again I'm gonna say that fair criticism is fair criticism, and fair praise is fair praise (Also "conjecture and hearsay" /= reacting to footage, spoilers and Starz' own episode captions, IMOHO).  Critiquing a show or a franchise is not the same a hating it.  People can be happy or unhappy with anything they see coming out in connection with the show, as long as they state their reasons for doing so in a non-trolly manner. But to say we should praise Sam, Rob and Bruce just for giving this to us just because we never thought we'd get it is just hero worship gone astray.  I love 'em all but they're not perfect.  Again, be as negative and as positive as you like, just SAY what you like and don't like, so we can all discuss it betwixt ourselves!  :D

My guess is Ash has some ladies over for a few drinks, and goes into the bathroom to take some Viagra... and in typical Ash fashion uses the Necronomicon for reading material while waiting for it to kick in thus unleashing the Deadites again. A real boner killer, but it would explain the Ash 4 President stuff more than just being stoned as was said on wiki, haha.

I wouldn't be surprise if one of your theories about drunk reading the book happens.  In fact, it's really funny when you think about it. On the other hand, I'm not expecting an horror version of Dumb & Dumber for Evil Dead.  I just hope he will be tricked and this will cause his dumb move.  With all the footages I saw so far, I still think this Ash will be a Homer Simpson with really good Deadites fighting skills.  I'm sure the show will be entertaining as a roller-coaster of blood splatter and craziness.  I have no doubt.  I'm just expecting to get  Ash a little more wise and less dumb than the footages shown.   I think Pablo will be a more interesting character than expected.  Ruby need to be bad ass. Lucy Lawless is just perfect.  Kelly, well I think the character is a little bit annoying.  Always the rolling eyes moves and the critical feedback over Ash. Of course she's the brain of the team and another bad ass woman.  The "Go back tha hell!" scene was kind of weird.  She was not convincing and I'm not sure now about her role. If her purpose is only to be the brain that Ash and Pablo don't have, it will be both disappointing & annoying.  I know she have a backstory with the deadite but let's hope she's more than she seem to be.  Amanda Fisher is another surprise.  She seem to have a special connection with the deadites.  I think this could be an interesting path to go.

I agree the Necronomicon is a bit too clean.  they should have throw it in the mud a couple of time.  I wonder why they didn't hired Tom Sullivan to design it once again.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

*My thoughts on the criticism's about ash's overall character on this show*

My mindset as of right now going into this is expecting a whole new ash, Judging by the recent trailer his gonna be a real piece of work at the start of this series, but hopefully around ep 4-5 he will start to mature and give pablo less shit and start to look out for both of them towards the end of season 1, im gonna be cutting a little slack on sam and the other writers for the way his behaving because we haven't seen ash in over 30 YEARS so i can see it being a challenge for them trying to figure out what ash has been like for the past 30 years since ED 1/2, (I'm excluding AOD because it's really apparent they are not going to mention it anyway on this show due to universal being d*cks about the licensing ) so from my pov it seem's like to me there going off what ash would have acted like after ED 2,at the start of ED 2 he had this sort of cocky show off kinda attitude towards linda at the beginning of 2 so it seems they have expanded on that aspect of him for the beginning  of this series and hopefully they will transform him into the badass we know and love towards the end of season 1. Plus character development is way different on tv then on a movie, It seems to me they are going to lay the groundwork for what ash will be for this series  in season 1 and for season 2 will see new depths of his character hopefully. (Please renew this series starz !!  :s )

Plus Ray (guy who plays pablo)  even says in the video and i quote "we see ash own up to the hero his supposed to be"

Anyways have a new photo of a Michigan state police visiting the site of the western moose bar.

I doubt that Ash is happy. My underlying feeling from the videos and interviews is that Ash is kinda despaired. He's been stuck in one place (figuratively speaking) for 30 years and I bet that after Linda died, he didn't even have another serious relationship. That's why I don't mind Ash having girls in his trailer or hitting on Kelly in a creepy way. It's supposed to be creepy! He's old, desperate, lonely, and trying to hide that from the people around him and maybe even from himself.

Now, you could say that nothing from the videos/interviews backs this, bud I still kinda believe that the propagation campaign we are seeing is deliberately over the top. That these videos (and the silly Twitter/Tumblr quotes) aren't really for the Evil Dead fans, that are going to watch this show anyways (yes, we are), but more likely for everybody else. For the viewers that need a bit simpler image of the show - this kind of "Californication with demons", how it seems to me it's trying to present itself in a way.

And if this is just the tone of the promo campaign to get to the new viewers, that's completely fine with me. But if the show itself will try to go this way, that would be worse. But that's the thing. I still honestly believe that Bruce and Sam wouldn't go through it. That even though they are basically doing this just for the fans, they still have the similar vision as they had decades ago and that they don't want this to became a parody of itself...

... And also just the fact how much I am still speculating about this show over and over again, even thought we still don't know much about it yet, is a proof for me that I am still super exited for this, maybe more than for any TV show ever before. And even if it eventually won't go as I expected at the end, just these few months of waiting and speculating are surely a hell of an interesting experience. :)

I think you are absolutely right. Even if Ash will be a totally awkward mess at the start of the show, it will be probably just in order to slowly transform throughout the season him back into the Ash we know and love. :)

This could be the perfect scenario and you're totally right.  My criticism is base on pieces of informations we got right now.  Ash isn't really smart at all in all footages we saw so far.  I hope they will develop more the character as a mascot for the AVED series. I will probably change my thoughts more than once during the series.  ;)

Ash's pronounced style has always been caveman when it comes to fighting. Wait, you think Kelly's annoying because she tries to gainsay Ash but Ruby's cool because she kicks ass?  Even though Ruby's trying to kill Ash and it's the sole point of her character, while Kelly's actually seen protecting the guys and rightfully being pissed at Ash for touching her without her permission?  I do agree that if she exists soley as the 'voice of reason' and to give Pablo and Ash a pass for their behavior I'll be enraged tho.

The nose part is a good catch - he might be trying to skin them both alive to make more Nec pages?

Joem1k: Judging by the recent trailer his gonna be a real piece of work at the start of this series, but hopefully around ep 4-5 he will start to mature and give pablo less shit and start to look out for both of them towards the end of season 1, im gonna be cutting a little slack on sam and the other writers for the way his behaving because we haven't seen ash in over 30 YEARS so i can see it being a challenge for them trying to figure out what ash has been like for the past 30 years since ED 1/2, (I'm excluding AOD because it's really apparent they are not going to mention it anyway on this show due to universal being d*cks about the licensing ) so from my pov it seem's like to me there going off what ash would have acted like after ED 2,at the start of ED 2 he had this sort of cocky show off kinda attitude towards linda at the beginning of 2 so it seems they have expanded on that aspect of him for the beginning  of this series and hopefully they will transform him into the badass we know and love towards the end of season 1.

That's my hope, too.  But we do have to remember that Sam hates giving Ash character development.  So at this point I don't trust anything he learns will stick.

But I'm not willing to cut him slack on the writing - he and Ivan have been chewing ideas over for nearly twenty-five ideas at this point, and if Steve Niles can create a good, believable Ash in the comics then they frankly have no excuse.

I don't quite agree that his behavior matches up with ED2 Ash, though.  Recall that that Ash and his behavior toward that Linda, and the camaraderie he has with Annie.  I can't picture that Ash touching a woman without her permission.

I'd agree with the first part but it contradicts what Bruce keeps saying about Ash's life in interviews, and what Sam and Ivan have been saying.  He's regressed but happy with his little life on the fringes until he messes it up, if I remember right.

And my question is: can you picture the Ash we get at the end of AOD turning into this kind of guy?  That's the question to keep in mind.  There's a difference between making Ash imperfect and making him hard to root for..

I know that the Twitter/Tumblr stuff is deliberately over the top (saying that Ash has slept with 8 thousand women in thirty years and can drink 35 beers in one sitting, for instance), but I also know that some of it is incoherent, embarrassing and cringe-worthy, and that I'm not alone in feeling this way.  They accidentally went viral with one of their posts by accidentally putting "Broomstick" instead of "Boomstick" in a post.  Not only is that not professional, that's drawing attention to your brand in the wrong way.

RE: Evil Dead Television Series

Looks like an advanced critic's screening?

People said this about the remake too, of course :D
