Did you know that Sam Raimi gave them the book of the dead from Army of Darkness to use in the film? I thought that was pretty cool.

I'm sure I heard that Sam Raimi apologised to Tom Sullivan for that (something to do with Tom not being asked prior to Raimi giving permission?)

Though prior to 'Jason Goes to Hell', Sam and Wes Craven had a bit of an ongoing joke between each other; In 'The Evil Dead', Sam had Wes Craven's 'The Hills Have Eyes' poster hanging in the cellar, a sort of "everything you've seen until now was just a movie - THIS is real horror" - Wes responded by having Heather watch 'The Evil Dead' on TV in 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' - Sam came back with putting Freddy Kruger's glove in the cellar in 'Evil Dead 2' :-) With the Friday 13th series, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Evil Dead all belonging to New Line Cinema, (and the fact that *spoiler alert*  Freddy Kruger drags Jason to Hell at the end of the movie; the basis for the 'Freddy vs Jason' movie years later) I'm sure Sam did it in good fun.. But (please correct me if im wrong guys) im sure Tom was displeased that he wasn't asked if his work could be used /he wasn't credited for the book of the dead?

Anyways, thanks to that cool cameo by the book, we have the 'Freddy vs Jason vs Ash ' comic books (which I havent read yet - no spoilers please!) :-) New Line Cinema wanted that to be a movie too, but Raimi didn't want anyone else having creative control of his Ash character as he "had plans of his own for him" :-)

Oh, and if memory serves me correct (I was 9 when I last saw Jason Goes to Hell - 22 years ago, so forgive me if im wrong!) but I'm sure it was the Necronomicon prop from 'Evil Dead 2'  that was used rather than the 'Army of Darkness' version :-)

I thought it was from Evil Dead 2 when I saw it. In the commentaries they said he was filming Army of Darkness. So who knows.

The book design used in Jason Goes to Hell is from Evil Dead 2. Here's a screen cap comparison:

It was Dyd that supplied that info to you, not me ;)  ..... although while we're on cameo's for the Book Of The Dead, Tom's ED2 book also turns up in Pumpkinhead aka Vengence The Demon. I can't remember at the moment if it's the first film or sequel though. Here's some more info ..

So it was!! :-S Sorry Dyd!! (it was early hours when I posted lol!)

Speaking of cameo's. Did you know that Sam Raimi payed a visit to the Phantasm II set and wanted a small part. They couldn't find a spot for him so they put his name on a bag of cremated remains.

I didn't know that :)  .. thanks oldgame.

My favourite Raimi cameo so far has to be him falling out of a locker dead in John Carpenter's horror anthology film Body Bags, Sam can also be seen in a shattered framed photograph in the same gas/petrol station based episode but now as a dead ex employee of the month.
