[Official Thread] Evil Dead Rise

These are intriguing because it seems to posit the wayward sister is the first to get possessed vis her eyes and the way the mother and kids are looking at her. Classic ED-style "unexpected person becomes central protagonist" twist?

All the people I know who went to Brucefest have responded to what they saw with "you are not prepared" and I'm like "I am well-seasoned, prepare me."

Trailer spoilers out from Dread Central via someone who witnessed it at Brucefest. Grain of salt, but they've had decent reporting before, so:

* Tone is described as hewing closer to the remake, Deadites w/green eyes, etc.

* Master shot of gore involves someone swallowing a shard of glass and it popping out of their throat.

* Sample dialogue: "It was the most beautiful day. It was a perfect day. And all I could think about was how much I wanted to cut you all open and climb inside your bodies.” - Presumably Ellie

One of the kids to Ellie, looking at her through the peephole: "You don’t look so good, mom.”

Ellie: “Your mom is with the maggots now.”

* Chainsaw appears, chainsaw is used.

* Multiple Deadites appear in trailer.

Another new image and interview with Lee Cronin:

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas Evil Dead Rise trailer before the holidays, but Lee did share a larger higher quality version of the above shot minus the Total Film exclusive logo. So we have that.

I was going to make an BUT I WAS PROMISED NO WOODS THIS TIME joke, but this seems interesting enough. At least it's properly bloody.

Some interesting news from Lee vis the movie's connection back into the universe at large and the tone, translating the film into an urban environment, etc.
Maybe I read too much into it. Sounds like the movie shares some (?) vague continuity with the other movies? Sounds more interesting than another remake.

I am also happy about the promise of a claustrophobic atmosphere. That‘s one of the things I really missed in most of AvED.

It sounds like they do, yep.

You know, credit to Cronin for keeping his own style alive in this, he's at least not just nakedly aping his influences/Sam here.

We have a poster:
Edit: Gah, missed your post, Nick! I keep seeing complaints comparing the poster/look of this to a Blumhouse movie and...I don't see it yet?

I'm knocking wood that it's going to work, there's apparently more gore to be had in the longer trailer.

It was coming out fast, and I was in the middle of doing research and trying to find out when we would see a trailer when Bruce's post suddenly popped up. Now the Evil Dead Rise poster is being compared to Smile, and I understand it... but all movie posters look the same and a person with a crazy smile shouldn't be anything new to horror fans.

It's all good, we were all moving in fast motion! Yep, I've seen multiple people comparing it to Smile and I can kinda see that connotation but eh.

I think we know which way this poll will sway but the Official Evil Dead Twitter, which has been repurposed to promo Evil Dead Rise, is asking if subscribers want to see a red or a green band trailer tomorrow.

I shouldn't judge yet but it sounds like the storyline is tapping into MAMMA with the fearing mother aspect (not a bad thing) which is all we've been told so far. From Demons 2 to REC to Attack the Block and superior Korean films using that same location setting, I'm wondering what's going to be different with this story. The woman hovering above the lake image needs to be in context for me to care about that yet, hopefully that scene will be a meaningful part of the storyline. I hope the only connection with the Evil Dead won't only become ' .. and then they find the book of the dead but then one of the kids google translates it with their phone and ALEXA and all hell breaks loose.' .
