I was intrigued more by the idea of having a female lead in the movie. Part of me hopes that any character baring even a slight resemblance to Ash would be more of a homage than anything... I'm not sure what to think.

Only thing that makes me think Mia actually is still THE MAIN character is becuase of of a few shots in the trailer where she appears to be the only survivor especially this one:

Also David might die  after Eric gets possessed judging by the shot here where Eric is just standing by the couch and David, slumped down against the front door of the cabin uses the "boomstick" to shoot the can of gasoline on the table with a spread out deck of cards:

It's funny.. At first I was pretty doubtful when I heard there was a remake, based on the fact that some horror remakes end up really sucking. But after everything I've seen so far I'm starting to be pretty optimistic, especially seeing how positive Bruce is about it. Knowing the success they had with the originals I'm sure they don't want to remake it into something that totally blows.  Plus this isn't any reboot that was forced by some large movie company that only cares about it's profits, it's by the original guys with a young director, who happens to be a big fan of the originals. I have a feeling it's going to be pretty damn good :).

I'm with you on that .... strangely, the trailer for this didn't blow me away though. The recent fake fan cut trailer had the 'goosebumps when you watch it' factor but was definately more Evil Dead 2 in feel.

One major thing that's sold this to me is listening to how Fede Alvarez talks about the original. He seems to genuinely 'get' and love the original Evil Dead and defends it to the hilt in the above comicon interview link. He recognises how reveloutionary an idea it was then (and it's still a rarely used idea now) to have a man as the victim and the women the agressors, that the original was dark, that most Evil Dead fans ironically count The Evil Dead as number 3 on the list of fav Evil Dead films, because most just love Bruce Campbell and Ash's later more upbeat adventures in Evildeadland.

I think this remake will stand on its own legs ..

Did anyone notice that the Demon drawing in the book looks like Osama Bin Laden??? Flashbacks to the terrible "Z" Movie Osombie for a moment  8)

I had not noticed that until you mentioned something. Of course, it could just be the power of suggestion. I'd never heard of the Osombie movie either... and I'm glad.
