Evil Dead – Game Rules
Minimum players: 2
Age: 10+
Playing time: About 10 minutes per game
Have you always dreamed of playing as Ash Williams or, even better, the demonic forces trying to stop him? You've come to the right place! Choose your side, grab your weapons, and may the bravest or the vilest win!
Preparation :
Cut out the tokens and the Ash figure from the provided sheet.
You will also need one six-sided die (not included) for combat.
Components :
1 Ash figure
4 Deadite tokens
1 Necronomicon token
1 Chainsaw token
1 Axe token
1 Severed Hand token
4 Ammo tokens
4 Soda Can tokens
4 Evil Ash tokens
1 six-sided die (not included)
Objective :
To win the game, Ash must reach the Necronomicon, located in the cabin's cellar, destroy it, and then escape in his Oldsmobile while still having at least 1 Health Point remaining.
If Ash's Health drops to 0 before reaching his car, the forces of evil win.
Setup :
One player volunteers to play as Ash. If several players want the role, each rolls the six-sided die. The highest roll becomes Ash. In case of a tie, settle it with a chainsaw duel or simply reroll the dice! Take turns playing Ash in future games.
The Ash player places the Ash figure on the starting space shown on the board. Ash begins with 4 Health Points.
The remaining players become the Demonic Forces. They take all the bonus and penalty tokens, along with the Deadite tokens, and secretly place them face down on the 19 empty spaces provided on the board.
Carefully plan the placement of the tokens and spread the dangers throughout Ash's journey. The Necronomicon token must always be placed on the cellar trapdoor.
Important :
The forces of evil cannot place two identical tokens on adjacent spaces.
Likewise, two or three Deadites cannot be placed consecutively along Ash's path.
You're ready to play!
Gameplay
Ash chooses which paths to follow.
Will he take the quieter routes, risking unpleasant encounters, or charge through the busiest areas, hoping to uncover more helpful items? Will he explore isolated rooms of the cabin to tempt fate?
Ash moves one space at a time, revealing whatever the demonic forces have hidden beneath him: Deadites, bonuses, or penalties.
When Ash reveals a bonus token, he equips it and immediately gains its effect.
The same applies to penalty tokens.
Whenever Ash encounters a Deadite, combat begins using the six-sided die.
Without any bonuses or penalties, Ash wins the fight by rolling 4, 5, or 6.
If he rolls 1, 2 or 3, he loses 1 Health Point and must roll again.
Bonuses and penalties modify these combat odds.
Once Ash reaches the Necronomicon, it is automatically destroyed. Ash must then return to his car to escape.
Bonuses
The effects of combat bonuses do not stack.
- Ammo
Allows Ash to use his Boomstick during one combat against a Deadite.
Ash wins that roll on 3, 4, 5, or 6.
Each Ammo token is consumed after a single die roll.
Its effect is not affected by the Severed Hand penalty.
- Chainsaw
Ash wins combat on 3, 4, 5, or 6.
This effect is permanent and cancels the Severed Hand penalty.
- Axe
Ash wins combat on 3, 4, 5, or 6.
This effect is permanent, but it is cancelled by the Severed Hand penalty.
- Soda Can
Restore 1 Health Point.
Penalties :
- Severed Hand
Without his right hand, Ash is less effective against the Deadites.
He can only win combat by rolling 5 or 6.
This penalty is permanently removed if Ash later finds the Chainsaw.
The Boomstick is not affected.
- Evil Ash
Ash is possessed by the demon and loses 1 Health Point.
Strategy Tip :
At any time, Ash and the evil players know exactly which bonus and penalty tokens are still in play, allowing them to make educated guesses about the remaining hidden tokens.
Nightmare Mode (for hardcore fans) :
Play without bonuses or penalties.
Ash must roll 4 or 5 to defeat a Deadite.
If bonuses and penalties are used, their effects are applied relative to this new difficulty.
For example, with the Severed Hand penalty and no bonuses, Ash can only win by rolling a 6.
