The Random Evil Dead Related Merch & Prop Replicas Thread

I've never seen the Brazilian edition. What makes that one stand out in your eyes?.

Nothing special about it, really. I already had it before I bought the BotD edition and I just liked that transfer better. The colors in the BotD remaster never looked right to me, way too saturated. The colors in this other edition were closer to what I remembered from the VHS era while still offering an upgrade in image quality, and the film was presented in the original uncropped aspect ratio. That's all I could ask for, really. I have no idea which US or UK editions would have that same transfer, if any (probably one of the earliest, if I had to guess). The only extras in it were deleted scenes (more like short snippets, you know the ones) and a trailer. There were "better" editions released here in Brazil after that one, but it remained my favorite and I still have it, even though I don't even own a DVD player anymore. Here's a picture of the front cover I found on the web:

I gotta say the cheap look of the presentation only contributed to me liking it as much as I did, as I think it matched the vibe of the movie better.

Someone on Discord shared this stuff from a loot box. I had never seen any of this stuff before (especially the snow globe, which I cannot find any other images of), so I figured it would be worth sharing here. The shot glasses, pint glasses, and the snow globe are by a company called Surreal Entertainment, but I do not know when these were actually released.

Here are some photos of my pimped up Trick or Treat Necronomicon.

Originally I wanted to make this as close to the movie prop as possible (as you would) but after inspecting the movie a bit more, I realized that the original ToT book is much closer to the movie version than what we give it credit for. The pages in the movie are very straight and clean and in the flashback scene where the Knowbys discover the book in castle Kandar, you can even see it has the office binder shape with a flat spine and just a couple of pages inside. Though to be fair, the book looks different from shot to shot throughout the movie, so there really isn't much consistency (as there almost never is when it comes to Evil Dead).

So instead I was trying to make the book look more "realistic". To see how it could have looked if it survived the events of ED 2 and then rested in the moldy fruit cellar of the cabin for the next almost 40 years. I used a lot of spare paper to practice and experiment, so that I don't mess up my 100 dollar prop, so it was a long process, but ultimatelly I'm happy to see how it turned out. Though I have sever tunnel vision after all this time working on it, so please let me know what you think!

Hey @Hurley, that's some incredible work on your Necronomicon pages ! I really love how it looks now !
Thank you!

I know that with projects like this it's very important to know when to stop, but I'm thinking that I could probably go even heavier with the cardboard insides at the beginning and the end of the book, to hide the square binding even more. I guess I'll think about it.

The result is already very good as it is. If you ever feel like it, you can always make some tweaks in a few months, or even in a few years ;)

So I decided to try it out and went much heavier with the shoe polish over the biding boards to hide the binding better. I also did another pass of wood stain on individual pages.

Here's the result. I think it turned up pretty good, though I now really need to leave it be before I mess it up!

Can anyone here please tell me which year Studio Canal first picked up the franchise rights for Evil Dead 2?. I bought a Studio Canal ED2 T Shirt today from a collectables store in Norwich. I've had a quick search online for the franchise details but I haven't pinned down a year yet.

StudioCanal has owned ED2 since Dino De Laurentiis went out of business in the late 90s. They've had some level of control since their acquisition (since they are credited in THQ's Evil Dead games from the early 2000s), but got full merchandising rights some time in the early 2010s. I don't know the specific year, but I think a lot of merch starting cropping up around 2012-ish, so sometime between 2010-2011.

Yeah, that's just the ToT Necronomicon, they're just selling it in a physical shop (which isn't exactly special, since that's how I got mine).

Is it foam latex like the 2002 Anchor Bay BOTD DVD?. Mine lasted intact for 20+ years but even after keeping it in a clear plastic bag, it's now crumbling like a biscuit. A forum member here recommended a specific sealant to protect them and I'm now kicking myself that I didn't do that.

I think I'm going to spray what's left of mine with spray varnish or hair spray and just hope for the best now.

Any recommended type or brand so that it doesn't look overtly glossy or that I wouldn't have to repaint mine afterwards?

On the other hand, if my Necronomicon will last for 10-20 years as is, I'm fine with buying a new one after that (if they'll still be producing them, or a new version of them, that is).

So a couple of months ago I found out that somebody made a LEGO MOC of Sam's Classic that looks pretty good. And because I always thought it would be cool to have something Evil Dead from LEGO (especially because they'll never release anything officially), I decided to buy the instructions from ReBrickable, where I also bought the needed parts. More specifically, I only bought the parts I didn't already own, thinking I could also use parts from some of my old sets. Though on paper that sounds like a good idea, the process of going through my old LEGO box and finding individual needed pieces was very time consuming and much more inefficient than if I'd just bite the bullet and bought all the pieces at once (though at least it was an interesting project for a couple of evenings).

I built the MOC and made some adjustments to it (which required buying even more parts, though ReBricable services are extremely efficient in this regard). I made the model more sturdy and completely re-done the back window and the back interier, which were the only parts of the original MOC that I didn't really like.

I then bought a LEGO minifig-scale Necronomicon from The Printed Brick and an Ash minifigure with a chainsaw and a boomstick from some Chinese slop shop that I already forgot the name of (I usually don't like to buy stuff from such sites, but it seemed like the overall best option at the time). The minifig ended up OK. It looks great, but was clearly made from a cheaper plastic than what LEGO uses, so we'll see if it's gonna crumble to dust in a year or two. The Necronomicon, on the other hand, is amazing. It's a standard LEGO book double piece, only with a custom print for the outside and the inside.

Overall this was a fun project and it's now a great part of my small LEGO collection, mostly composed of other pop-culture vehicles (like James Bond's Austin Martin or the Batman: TAS Batmobile). And the funny thing is, LEGO could still release an official model of the Classic if they'd sell it as Uncle Ben's car in a Spider-Man set, though that's still very unlikely to ever happen.

Check out more photos here!

PS: You can buy the full MOC also from AliExpress and while I'm not sure about the quality of the bricks themselves, I know that the instructions are just stolen, without any approval from or any compensation to the original designer (I even contacted them on ReBricable to make sure that it's actually the case). So that's just another reason why I usually don't buy anything from this type of stores.
